SMYRNA, Tenn. – Ndala Booker and her husband were on their way home Thursday night when they stopped at a gas station in Smyrna.

Immediately after filling up at the Shell station on Sam Ridley Boulevard, while still in the parking lot, Booker said her SUV lost all power.

"I said, 'I think it was the gas,' because it was right after we put the gas in the tank that it started shaking," she recalled.

The couple called a tow truck but was told it would be an hour and a half before it could get there.

They had children at home so they walked, and had their SUV towed to the mechanic, who explained their unexpected problem.

"He said, 'You guys have water in your gas tank'," Booker recalled.

She said the cost of repairs alone was $287, plus the cost to tow the vehicle.

"Plus towing and the gas that we then had to come back and put more gas in the car, it ended up being about $370," she said.

Employees at the Shell station said they are unable to comment.

After calling the corporate offices in Nashville, News 2 was told no one is available to comment on weekends.

An employee said the premium and mid-grade gasoline are currently not being sold and there are signs posted on the pumps that indicate that.

Booker said she's not the only driver who has paid for gas at the Shell and ended up with water in the tank.

"We later found out there were about 13 other people that had come in, so they're sending [the complaints] to [Shell's corporate offices] and hopefully corporate will reimburse us for what we had to spend to get the truck out," she said.

Booker said the store manager told her corporate should take care of the costs but couldn't specify when they would be reimbursed.
