JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) - Former U.S. Rep. David Davis says he's "strongly" considering a rematch against Republican Rep. Phil Roe next year, but that he doesn't expect to decide about the bid until until early next year.
Davis fell fewer than 500 votes short of being re-nominated in last year's Republican primary for the 1st Congressional District in northeastern Tennessee.
Davis blamed crossover voting by Democrats for making him the first Tennessee congressman to lose a primary since 1966.
He said in a phone interview from Johnson City on Wednesday that supporters have been urging him to run again. Davis said he has not yet begun contacting campaign vendors.
The filing deadline is April 1.
