Ft. Campbell soldiers return home for Thanksgiving

Posted:

FT. CAMPBELL, Ky. - Dozens of Ft. Campbell soldiers made it home just in time to spend the Thanksgiving holiday at home with their families.

Members of the 159th Combat Aviation Brigade walked off the plane around 1 a.m. Thursday at the post.

Family and friends had waited several hours with flags and signs in hand, ready to welcome the soldiers home.

Some had been waiting a long time, because the group was serving in Afghanistan for the last year.

Another group of soldiers from the 159th CAB was expected to return late Thursday night, and even more have yet to fly in over the weekend.

The military expects about 700 troops to return home by the end of the week.

Army officials say they're hoping to get every brigade home in time for Christmas.

Additional deployments won't begin until the new year.
