
LEBANON, Tenn. - The Tennessee Highway Patrol has confirmed one person has died in a crash involving a truck and a school bus in Wilson County.
The crash happened around 3 p.m. as the bus was heading west on Bates Road, near Highway 109 in Lebanon.
Authorities said the bus had just stopped to let two children off when the pickup truck hit it from behind.
THP spokesperson Mike Browning confirms the driver of the truck, Phillip Houston, of Lebanon, died at the scene.
Authorities said the sole passenger in the truck was the man's granddaughter.
She was transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.
Four elementary school children were riding the bus at the time of the crash. Browning told News 2 the bus driver and the children were not injured.
THP and Wilson County Emergency Management are investigating the accident.
THP is doing an extensive traffic study and scene analysis to determine what exactly happened.
They said the bus driver did follow proper procedures when stopping.
