EAST NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A Web site focused on the lighter side of the tough economy is paying off for one east Nashville man.
Daniel Brabson began thinking about other options for income when his freelancing work started drying up last November.
"When I was starting to think about the site, a lot of my friends were getting laid off," Brabson told News 2. "The big jobs that people used to have in the 50s and 60s, I don't think people have that job security anymore."
He and a friend decided to launch a Web site called RecessionJunction.com to inject a little humor into peoples' lives and provide a little extra income.
"We're at a time right now where you don't know if your job is going to be there tomorrow so I was like, ‘I might as well start something on my own,'" he said.
Brabson said while not everyone gets the jokes, "at the same time, a lot of people have to laugh at what's going on right now."
RecessionJunction.com officially went online in February and since then have had enough orders to keep busy and plenty of interest from around the country.
The Web site sells humorous items like t-shirts that say, "My government gave out $700 billion and all I got is this lousy tee shirt."
Brabson said he's not making fun of people in tough situations, just trying to get people to smile.
"I'm in the same boat," he told News 2.
Virtually everything on the Web site, including t-shirts, bumper stickers and coffee mugs, sells for less than $15.
