NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Senate on Thursday unanimously passed a measure that would designate milk the official state beverage of Tennessee.
The sponsor of the bill, Democratic Charlotte Burks of Monterey, said the measure will help dairy farmers.
She said milk is healthy, and she hopes the proposal will encourage more people to drink it to help dairy farmers who are struggling now because of the tough economy.
The House unanimously approved the proposal earlier this week.
The measure now goes to the governor for his consideration.
