Mom charged with setting fatal Ft. Campbell house fire

FT. CAMPBELL, Ky. - The wife of a Ft. Campbell soldier has been charged with setting the fire on base last year that killed her two young children.

Billi Jo Smallwood, 35, was indicted Tuesday on two counts of maliciously setting fire to a residence.

She also faces a federal charge of attempting to destroy a residential facility for members of the U.S. Army.

The May 2007 fire killed nine-year-old Sam Fagan and two-year-old Rebekah Smallwood.

Her husband, Army Spc. Wayne Smallwood, was injured.  The Smallwoods' toddler daughter was not harmed.

Smallwood, who is from Georgia, is in federal custody and scheduled to appear court for a detention hearing in Gainesville Friday.

She could face execution or life in prison if convicted.
