The Nashville woman charged in the death of her estranged husband pleaded not guilty to the crime in criminal court Wednesday morning.
James Cannon, a Nashville attorney and local businessman, was found strangled to death in an upstairs closet of his Bowling Avenue home on the morning on June 23.
Kelley Cannon, 41, was arrested in July and charged with his murder.
She was released on bond last month.
Cannon's attorney said Wednesday that besides proving her innocence she is focused on getting custody of her children.
"She's doing well, she's living with her mother, desperately misses her children and hopefully at some point in time she can regain custody of those children," said Peter Strianse.
James Cannon's sister currently has custody of the children, aged nine, seven, and 18 months.
Kelley Cannon is expected to go on trial for murder next year.
