Family files wrongful death suit

The family of the 11-year-old Kentucky girl killed last month by a Rutherford County Sheriff's deputy has filed a wrongful death lawsuit for $7.5 million.

Lakeisha White died after being struck by a car driven by Sgt. Ron Killings.

She was visiting her grandmother in Murfreesboro and darted out in front of his unmarked patrol car.

White's family filed the suit Friday against Killings, the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department and Rutherford County.

The family alleges Killings failed to exercise due care, failed to keep his vehicle under due and reasonable control, was speeding and was driving in a reckless manner.

Murfreesboro police suspended the lead investigator in the case on Friday after police learned two bottles found at the crash scene weren't initially included in the investigation and there was a two-hour time lapse before Killings had to submit to a blood-alcohol sample.
