Jerry Gray hired as Titans defensive coordinator

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Jerry Gray has been hired as the Titans' new defensive coordinator.

The announcement from the Titans came early Saturday evening, just one day after Gray arrived in Nashville to interview for the position.

Gray joins the team after spending one season as the secondary coach for the Seattle Seahawks.

He also spent five years as the defensive coordinator with the Buffalo Bills, as well as serving as the Titans secondary coach during their Super Bowl run.

"Jerry has a number of qualities that I think are assets for this role: he played the game, he coached a position group and he has coordinating experience," Titans head coach Mike Munchak said in a release.

He continued, "I respected him as a player and coach and he was someone that I knew right away that I wanted to talk to about the position. It was evident to me during interview process that he will fit well with us – he is familiar with our system and the type of players that we have on the roster. He is a great teacher and a great person, and I think the players will respond well to his style."

Gray replaces Chuck Cecil, who held the position for two years and was relieved of his duties in January.
