MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee State University quarterback Dwight Dasher is the subject of a police investigation.

According to an incident report on file with campus police, Dasher, a senior at the Murfreesboro school, is accused of failing to repay a large sum of money he borrowed from Oliver Donnell, an elderly hospital patient.

That same report also names Dasher as the subject of another ongoing investigation. That investigation involves missing checks from teammate Colin Boss.

Donnell is a resident of the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System Alvin C. York Veteran Affairs Campus in Murfreesboro.  He told News 2 he loaned Dasher $1,500 for the quarterback to play poker.

Donnell said he made four loans to dasher.  Three loans were for $300 and one loan for $600.

"I told him I needed collateral," Donnell said via phone. "He gave me a check with the name scratched out and his written in for $900."

Donnell said before he made the last loan of $600, Dasher showed him a letter on MTSU letterhead that said the quarterback would receive $3,000 for off-campus housing and meals.  Donnell said Dasher wrote another $600 check.

"He said he would get the money on August 27." he said. "I kept the letter and the checks."

Donnell has not cashed the checks written to him. He told News 2 he did not report the loans to authorities.  He said his name came up when Murfreesboro police began investigating a report of missing checks by Boss.

MTSU Athletic Director Chris Massaro said Friday the Sun Belt Conference and NCAA have been informed.

Saturday, MTSU head coach Rick Stockstill said the team is staying focused despite the ongoing investigation.

"Being two weeks before we start the timing is not very good," he said, "but it is what it is and we have to deal with it."

Dasher has not commented on the inquiry.

He has not been charged with anything criminal nor has been sanctioned by MTSU or the NCAA.
