Proposed Music City Center plans first conventions

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The groundbreaking hasn't taken place for Nashville's proposed new convention center, but it already has eager visitors.

Thursday, the American Animal Hospital Association was the first group to commit to holding conventions in the Music City Center.

AAHA was formed in 1933 by the leaders of the veterinary profession and is currently based in Colorado.

It signed up to hold conventions in Music City in 2014 and 2018.

This will be the association's first convention in Nashville.

Jason Merrihew, the communications coordinator for American Animal Hospital Association, said several things factored into why the group chose Nashville.

"Proximity and membership density," he said.  "We have quite a bit of our members within a 10 hour drive or within 500 miles of Nashville.  As a city, Nashville is very attractive to us because of the family entertainment."

The group plans to bring about 4,000 visitors to the city.
