Ron Killings
Lakeisha White
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - A judge has decided that the jury for the reckless homicide trial against a former Rutherford County sheriff's deputy will be drawn from Hamilton County.
Ron Killings faces an October 14 trial in the death of 11-year-old Lakeisha White, who was killed after his cruiser struck her in July 2008 as she was crossing the street.
White, of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, was visiting her grandmother in Murfreesboro at the time.
The Daily News Journal reported that Circuit Court Judge David Bragg on Monday ordered that the charge of reckless homicide will be heard by jurors selected from the Chattanooga-Hamilton County area.
They will be sequestered for the trial.
Defense attorneys argued for the out-of-county jury because of extensive pretrial publicity.
A second trial for Killings on charges of tampering with evidence and filing a false report has not been set.
Killings has maintained the crash was an accident.
