NASHVILLE, Tenn. - An arrest has been made in the case of a murdered Tennessee State University employee.

Metro police arrested 23-year-old Jarrod Phillips Tuesday night.

Nathaniel Adefope, a 60-year-old supervisor at the Frank A. Young Poultry Plant on the university's main campus, was found stabbed and beaten to death on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 8.

Investigators said Phillips, who was a temporary employee at the farm, received medical treatment for cuts to his hand on the day Adefope was murdered.

DNA samples were taken and linked to the victim.

Adefope held a master's of science degree in agriculture with a concentration in animal science from TSU and had worked for the university since 1982.

The motive for the murder was not released.

Phillips was convicted in July 2008 of robbing an east Nashville Dollar General Store and received a four-year sentence.

Records reflect he was placed on probation.

Phillips is being held in the Metro jail on $500,000 bond.
