NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The so-called 'Guns in Park' law goes into effect at 12 Midnight Tuesday.
While the law allows handgun carry permit holders to bring their weapons into Tennessee state parks, many local municipalities and counties have chosen to "opt out" of the new law, keeping current gun bans in place.
At least 13 cities in the Mid-State, including Nashville, Franklin, Brentwood, Smyrna, Murfreesboro, and two counties, Davidson and Williamson, have "opted out" of the new law that takes effect Tuesday.
Columbia and Mt. Juliet voted not to.
The deadline to opt out of the state law is Tuesday, September 1.
