NASHVILLE, Tenn. - For George Plaster, host of 104.5's "The Zone", the death of former Tennessee Titans' quarterback Steve McNair has been one of the hardest stories to cover in his entire career.

"I mean you talk about a numbing experience," Plaster told News 2 Thursday morning, one day after police ruled McNair's death a murder-suicide, with his 20-year-old girlfriend responsible.

"I didn't know until about five minutes before I went on the air that the actual crime scene was essentially in the backyard of our radio station," Plaster recalled.  "At the end of our station's property is that condominium complex.  The whole thing just, you know, as I looked at it I just couldn't believe what I was seeing."

He continued, "It makes it very difficult to navigate, by far one of the tougher sports stories you have had to cover in your career, no doubt."

Plaster said the week of September 11, 2001 and the terrorist attacks was the worst thing he has had to cover and McNair's death is a close second.

"I keep thinking, when we go to a commercial break, ‘When is this week going to end?  This is not really what I signed up for,'" he said.  "I guess all of us signed up for the choice department of life, which is what sports is supposed to be and you talk about a cold thing of water being thrown in your face, this is way different than what I'm used to."

Plaster said he believes Nashville fans will choose to remember the good things about McNair.
