Who was Sahel Kazemi?

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The deaths of former Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair and Sahel Kazemi have been ruled a murder-suicide, with Kazemi, the 20-year-old girlfriend of McNair, responsible.

Wednesday morning, News 2 spoke with Kazemi's roommate, Emily Andrews, as she stopped by the Hermitage apartment the two previously shared.

According to a neighbor, Andrews was helping Kazemi's family move out some of the remaining items inside the apartment.

Andrews told News 2 she is still upset about the death of her friend.

"It just breaks my heart, what happened," Andrews told News 2.  "And we're all grieving and we all want to remember 'Jenny', Sahel and Steve, but we want to remember her as more than Steve McNair's girlfriend, because she was to us."

Andrews did not want to discuss anything about the case or go into details about Kazemi's relationship with McNair.

Metro police on Wednesday confirmed Kazemi shot and killed McNair before turning the gun on herself Saturday inside the downtown Nashville condo McNair co-rented.

According to police, in her last few days, Kazemi showed signs of distress.

She was struggling to make two car payments, her roommate was also about to move out, forcing her to pay all the rent, and she believed McNair was having an affair with another woman.

In addition, McNair reportedly stood her up in Las Vegas two weeks ago and last Thursday, she was pulled over in downtown Nashville and charged with DUI.

Kazemi worked as a server at the Dave & Buster's restaurant in Opry Mills.

Kristina La Rosa, a co-worker of Kazemi's, called her "independent" and someone who did what she needed to do.

"When I first started working with her, she was the girl that never wanted to work, gave up her shifts," La Rosa recalled.  "Then she realized there was more to life and wanted to enjoy it more, [so she] started working more, became more personable at work, she was pleasant."

La Rosa went on to say it was "fun" working with Kazemi, saying even if it was "boring at work, [Kazemi] knew how to make it fun."

Metro police said Kazemi and McNair had been in a dating relationship for several months.

In January, police received a 911 call from the young woman after her then-boyfriend Keith Norfleet threw her cell phone at her.

"My boyfriend just threw my phone right in my face and he is going crazy, and I don't want him here," she told the 911 operator.

The phone never struck Kazemi and when asked by the dispatcher if Norfleet had assaulted her, Kazemi said, "No, just threw it in my face."

There were no charges filed against Norfleet following the incident.

After the deaths of Kazemi and McNair, Norfleet was interviewed by police but never named a suspect.
