'Guns in parks' bill is one step closer to becoming law

Posted:

Tennessee gun owners are one step away from bringing their guns to state and local parks.

State lawmakers approved the new law Tuesday night.

The measure now goes to Gov. Phil Bredesen for his signature.

If he signs the bill, guns will be allowed in state parks immediately.

The decision for local parks will wait until Sept. 1.

Local governments also can decide whether to accept the law or override it to keep guns out of parks.
