Vanderbilt breast center to open at 100 Oaks

Crews with Vanderbilt's Breast Center spent the day Friday moving into their new building.

The new center is inside the 100 Oaks shopping mall and part of a massive expansion of Vanderbilt Medical Center.

"The big difference is really space.  We only had 7,000 square feet at our existing clinic.  We're going to have 18,000 square feet [at 100 Oaks], more than double the square footage," explained Dagny Stuart with Vanderbilt Medical Center.

A few outpatient clinics have already moved in.

When it's all said and done there will be 20, with more than 1,000 Vanderbilt employees working at 100 Oaks.

Related clinics, like OB-GYN, will be under the same roof, so patients don't have to move from one location to another.

"We have a lot of women who put off getting a mammogram, so we want to make sure it's easy and convenient," Stuart said.

While patients wait to see the doctor, they can visit a number of area restaurants and retailers, who are excited about doing business.

"Traffic is really picking up throughout the day.  A lot of different faces are in the mall, coming into our store just to browse.  Browsing turns into shopping, shopping turns into spending, so that's a good thing for us," said Ronald Gooch with K&G Fashion Superstore.

The new breast center is set to open on Monday.
