A Sumner County high school teacher was arrested Thursday on charges she had sexual relations with a 17-year-old male student.
Sandra Binkley, 36, teaches math at Portland High School.
Authorities allege the one-time incident took place at the school in March of this year, during school hours when other students were in the building.
The teenage victim reportedly told his parents earlier this week, who then approached the school's principal.
Binkley was arrested Thursday and charged with statutory rape by an authority figure.
She has since been released from the Sumner County jail on $5,000 bond.
School officials said Binkley has taught at Portland High School for the last 10 years and until now, had never been in trouble.
She was suspended from the school without pay.
