The man accused of kidnapping his girlfriend and holding her hostage for several days in their mobile home appeared in a Nashville courtroom Thursday.
Gregory Tripp was arrested at the home in the Country Meadows mobile home park in Antioch over the weekend.
His girlfriend was found inside, chained to a bed.
Officers responded to the home Saturday after receiving a concerned call from the woman's sister.
Prosecutors allege Tripp held his girlfriend hostage and brutally assaulted her to the point where she was too frightened to contact police.
"All she kept saying was who called the police, he's going to kill me," Metro police officer Adam Weeks testified. "[She] had like a leather strap around her ankle with a metal chain around it and the links were right at her ankle with a padlock."
The victim told officers Tripp repeatedly cut and beat her and often kept her chained to the bed.
Tripp is employed by the mobile home park as a maintenance man.
According to the property manager, a background check done on Tripp before he was hired showed no criminal record.
Officers are still investigating the alleged rape and kidnapping.
In the meantime it will be up to a grand jury to decide what is next.
