Fire damaged a historic, family-run market in Hendersonville early Thursday morning, destroying family photos and heirlooms dating back 107 years.
The blaze broke out at Worsham's Market located in the Shackle Island community on New Hope Road just north of Long Hollow Pike in Hendersonville at about 5 a.m.
Firefighters arrived on the scene and were able to get the fire under control by about 7 a.m.
No one was inside the shop at the time and no other buildings were damaged.
Worsham's Market was opened in 1901 by Bobby Worsham's grandfather, passed on to his father and then on to him.
Family members on the scene early Thursday morning said a customer driving by spotted the fire and notified them.
Amy Worsham-Monroe, owner's daughter, said, "A customer, Ray Lattimer, drove by and saw smoke off the back of the old part so he pulled down the drive and started blowing the horn."
The fire caused significant damage in the rear of the building, where all the irreplaceable family and community pictures were kept.
"This has been my dad's life since he was a child, he was raised in that house right there," said Worsham-Monroe.
Worsham said he hopes to salvage some of the family heirlooms and told News 2 he plans to rebuild.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
