PITTSBURGH (AP) - Alfredo Simon pitched into the seventh inning despite erratic control, Jay Bruce drove in a run for a fifth consecutive game and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-2 Wednesday night. Simon worked 6 2-3 innings and allowed two runs on four hits and five walks while striking out four.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky's frontcourt will bring back size and experience next season after freshman center Dakari Johnson and sophomore forward Alex Poythress announced they would return. The 7-foot Johnson started 18 of Kentucky's final 20 games and shot 62 percent during the NCAA tournament. Poythress averaged 5.9 points and 4.5 rebounds and showed more flashes of his talent during the Wildcats' run to the national title game.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Louisville has hired Kenny Johnson as a Cardinals assistant coach. Johnson had been an assistant and recruiting coordinator the past two years at Indiana, putting together top-20 recruiting classes both seasons, including a top-five group last year.

NEW YORK (AP) - Sinatra beat Vinny Goodtimes by a half-length Wednesday in the $69,000 allowance feature at Aqueduct. Second for most of the race, Sinatra prevailed in the deep stretch for his third win in eight starts.
