GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Dollar General of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, says it is upgrading its bid for rival Family Dollar to approximately $9.1 billion. The Dollar General Corp. also announced Tuesday that it is prepared to divest itself of 1,500 stores to steer clear of any antitrust issues with regulators.

NEW MADRID, Mo. (AP) - Tennessed-based Noranda Aluminum says it is laying off employees and suspending an expansion project in Missouri after regulators in that state rejected its request for lower electricity rates. Company officials in Franklin, Tennessee, announced the cutbacks Tuesday at an alumnium smelter in New Madrid, Missouri.

NEW YORK (AP) - A booking agent for Jimi Jamison, who sang lead on Survivor hits such as "Burning Heart" and "Is This Love," says the performer has died in Memphis. Booking agent Sally Irwin says Jamison died over the weekend of an apparent heart attack after returning from a series of concerts.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - Chattanooga will host 2014 NCAA semifinalist Stanford and eight-time national champion Tennessee as part of its 2014-15 women's basketball schedule. The Lady Mocs released a schedule Tuesday that includes a Nov. 26 home game with Tennessee and a Dec. 17 home game with Stanford.
