NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee's largest teachers' union is suing the Knox County Board of Education, claiming the student test scores used to assess a teacher's performance were flawed and cost her a bonus. The lawsuit says Knox County teacher Lisa Trout was unfairly denied the district's bonus after being misled about how her TVAAS estimate would be calculated.
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - For the second time this year, a fire has damaged hundreds of headstones at the Chattanooga National Cemetery. The grass fire on Sunday was the second since a 5-acre blaze in January damaged about 1,800 headstones at the cemetery. Both fires are under investigation.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Country Music Hall of Fame singer Mel Tillis is recovering in Nashville after heart surgery over the weekend. According to a statement from his daughter, Pam Tillis, the 81-year-old singer required a "routine heart procedure," but is expected to make a full recovery.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Former Tennessee star player and coach Johnny Majors remains in stable condition at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he underwent a heart valve procedure days ago. The 78-year-old says he feels "very good" given the circumstances.
