NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A local cheerleading coach received a kidney from the owner of an all-star team last week.

Kelley Zeringue, the owner of ACE Cheerleading in Murfreesboro, donated one of her kidneys to cheerleading coach Matt McCallun.

Zeringue told News 2 that she first met McCallun while bowling at a team bonding event.

"When he was bowling, I noticed his arm was deformed, you know misshaped, and I asked my husband what had happened to him," Zeringue recalled

McCallun said his kidneys were damaged when he was seven years old and he has been on dialysis for the past four years.

Zeringue told News 2 that she thought she was a match for McCallun even before test results came in.

The two underwent surgery on Thursday at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.

McCallun said that he is looking forward to doing normal things that any mid-20-year-old person would do.

"[I look forward] to be able to do things that a normal 24-year-old or 25-year-old would do instead of working three jobs and not having anytime to spend with my wife," McCallun said.

The Ace All-Star cheerleaders are working to raise $200,000 to help McCallun and his wife with medical expenses for the rest of his life.

The team has already raised more than $8,000.
