Vanderbilt plans for new medical campus in Franklin

FRANKLIN, Tenn. - Vanderbilt University Medical Center has announced plans to build a $200 million medical campus in Franklin.

Vanderbilt purchased 22 acres of land for about $5 million at the corner of McEwen and Carothers Parkway.

Officials said the planning for the 200,000 square foot center will take a year and two years to build.

The new medical center will eventually grow up to 500,000 square feet.

Vanderbilt said the campus will be similar to its 100 Oaks property off Thompson Lane in Nashville with outpatient facilities, doctor's offices and specialists.

Vanderbilt Medical already has a large presence in Williamson County with 16 office locations throughout the county. Those offices, along with 50 doctors are expected to move to the Carothers Parkway location.

Construction of the new medical center is expected to be completed by 2014.
