LEBANON, Tenn. – East Main Street, near the downtown square in the city of Lebanon, is beginning to sink and crews have closed the road to begin repairs.
According to city officials, there are caves underneath the road, along with a creek bed running about 40 feet below the road.
Those two factors combined are causing the road to sink.
Crews will need to get underneath the road to stop the sinking and settling of the ground.
The construction bid for the repair project will be given September 17.
Two months after the bid, the project will get underway and will take between nine months to one year to complete.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation will pay for most of the bill.
The city will have to pay for some of the bill, such as moving the water and sewer lines.
Drivers should be prepared for delays during the Wilson County Fair and start of the academic school year next month.
