Ex. hospital executive gets prison for fraud

Associated Press - March 10, 2010 5:05 AM ET

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - A former Louisiana hospital executive has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for embezzling nearly $200,000 from her employer's student loan repayment program.

A federal judge on Tuesday also ordered 40-year-old Melissa Hanks Bordelon, of Nashville, Tenn., to pay $192,000 in restitution to Acadian Medical Center in Eunice.

Bordelon was the hospital's chief financial officer for the hospital, which paid off student loans for its physicians.

Prosecutors say Bordelon defrauded the hospital by having checks issued for more than what she needed to make loan payments and then pocketed the excess money.
