NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennesseans who live in rural areas and small towns are going to find it a lot easier to visit and work in the state's big cities. Vice President Joe Biden announced that the state will receive $3.1 million in economic stimulus funds to expand its intercity bus routes.
The program, which is run by the state Department of Transportation, offers fixed bus routes between rural areas and the state's urban centers. State officials say it's especially helpful to the disabled and to people who don't have cars.
The funds are expected to expand the service to cover about 65 percent of the state.
The program has been in demand since it began last year, providing service to more than 12,000 passengers in its first six months.
