Miley Cyrus' tour bus crashes in Virginia

DINWIDDIE, Va. – The bus driver of a tour bus belonging to singer Miley Cyrus was killed Friday morning when the bus crashed in Virginia.

Virginia State Police said the bus overturned at about 8:15 a.m. Friday on Interstate 85 in Dinwiddie, about 40 miles south of Richmond.

The singer was not on board and was not on the scene of the accident.

Police have identified the driver as 53-year-old William Douglas of Austin, Texas.

News 2 has learned at least three passengers are from Nashville.

A stage manager on board was taken to the hospital with injuries described as a bloody nose and black eyes.

A photographer, a carpenter and a six-member lighting crew were also on board and were not injured.

A passenger told News 2 he was asleep, woke up and felt the bus going side to side before it overturned.

Virginia State Police said the roads were wet from heavy rain Thursday night, but are not blaming the weather for the crash.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Miley Cyrus is the daughter of country star Billy Ray Cyrus and star of "Hannah Montana."

She is scheduled to perform on Sunday in Greensboro, North Carolina.

In a statement posted at MileyCyrus.com, the Cyrus family said, "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Bill "Uncle Bill" Douglas.  Members of our tour are like members of our family.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family in the midst of this tragedy.  He will truly be missed."
