Suspect in Fayetteville slayings complained about cheating wife

Posted:

FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn. – The Fayetteville man who police say went on a murderous rampage in July, killing six people in Tennessee and Alabama appeared in court Thursday for a preliminary hearing.

Jacob Shaffer is charged with six counts of homicide for the killings.

His case was bound over to the grand jury.

A sheriff's deputy with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department testified in the hour hearing that Shaffer told him his wife had been unfaithful.

Shaffer's estranged wife, Tracie, her teenage son, her father Billy Hall, her brother Chris Hall and a 16-year-old neighbor were found slain in two homes in rural Fayetteville on July 18.

A man described as an acquaintance of Shaffer's was found beaten to death at a Huntsville business, about 30 miles south.
