NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Six firefighters were injured battling a house fire Thursday morning in Donelson.
Authorities were called to the house on Dinah Court, near the intersection of Lebanon Road and Central Pike, at about 7:30 a.m.
Several ambulances were also called to the scene.
Authorities told News 2 they originally believed all residents were out of the house but then learned one resident usually slept in the basement.
Firefighters re-entered the burning home to find the resident.
Once inside, the first floor collapsed, trapping three firefighters.
Firefighters on the scene rescued their injured co-workers, who were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for burns and smoke inhalation.
Christina Byers, 29, and Christopher Mullican, 33, were treated for smoke inhalation.
Captain Michael Sisk, 50, was treated for an abdominal and leg injury and was expected to be released.
The fire department said 44-year-old Captain Jimmy Ray Greenwood, a 22-year veteran of the department, will be kept overnight for observation.
Two additional firefighters, Captain Michael Meeks, 53, a 23-year veteran and Brian Moat, 41, a 13-year veteran, were treated at Summit Hospital for minor burns and smoke inhalation.
They have since been released.
The resident of the home, Barry Wilson, escaped the fire although his dog, Roxy, is still missing.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Fire officials said a working smoke detector was found in the home.
