50-year-old Dwight FarrisNASHVILLE, Tenn. – An Antioch man is behind bars in Nashville, charged with several counts of rape and child rape.
Dwight Farris, 50, was indicted Tuesday on 10 counts of rape, five counts each of statutory rape and sexual battery by an authority figure and one count each of criminal exposure to HIV and to display sex acts to a minor 13 or older.
According to investigators, the incidents involved a male victim who was 15 at the time of the alleged abuse.
"Mr. Farris was a friend of the victim's family and the victim's family allowed the teenager to stay with Farris for four months. It was during that time period that Farris is alleged to have sexually abused the teen," explained Metro police spokesperson Don Aaron.
He said Farris had authority over the teenager because the teen was staying with him, with the teen's family's consent.
Aaron said, "Because Farris had authority over the teen, the authority role is involved in this particular indictment."
According to police, the abuse continued at Farris' Antioch home during the four months the teen stayed there in 2008.
Investigators did not say why the allegations of abuse did not surface immediately.
"Work is continuing to be done by the police by the sex crimes unit," Aaron said.
Farris was booked into the Metro jail on $250,000 bond.
