Posted:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A suspect is in police custody after a chase spanning three counties early Wednesday morning.

The pursuit began in the Tulip Grove area of Hermitage at about 1 a.m. after an officer attempted to pull over a suspicious vehicle.

Metro police said the male suspect fled the scene in his car, almost hitting the officer and striking a mailbox as he fled.

The officer pursued the suspect about three miles until he crossed into Wilson County, where the officer suspended the chase.

Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers spotted the vehicle a few minutes later and continued the chase through Wilson into Smith County.

State troopers said the suspect skidded to a stop on Hiwassee Road in Smith County and bailed out of the vehicle.

Troopers caught the man near the scene.

The man is charged with evading arrest and reckless endangerment and was booked into the Wilson County jail.

Charges are also pending in Metro, police said.

The suspect's name was not released.
