OLIVER SPRINGS, Tenn. - A Powell man was killed over the weekend and three others injured in a small plane crash in Anderson County, north of Knoxville.
Anderson County Sheriff Paul White said a wet, mushy grass landing strip, coupled with a strong crosswind were likely factors in the crash.
Pilot Doyle R. Chadwick, 66, died
Passengers Phillip Byrge, 49, Nathan Byrge, 12, and Mary Byrge, 8, suffered minor injuries.
Investigators said the single-engine plane traveled 800-900 feet after it touched down near Oliver Springs before it struck a tree on the pilot's side of the cabin.
The plane was a four-seat Piper Cherokee registered to a flying club.
