Heather Williamson, Warren Co. teacherNASHVILLE, Tenn. - This year's News 2 Educators of the Week were honored one last time at a luncheon on Monday.
News 2 and the Tennessee Lottery brought the class of 2009 together for a luncheon at Allium, a new restaurant in east Nashville.
The honorees teach throughout Middle Tennessee and don't necessarily know one another.
They were all nominated by someone who thought enough of them to write a letter touting their classrooms virtues.
Shereka Roby-Grant teaches at W. A. Bass Middle School in Davidson County.
"I was shocked," she told News 2. "I was happy though, but I was very shocked that someone nominated me."
Williamson County teacher Lane Thompson was also among the teachers nominated as an Educator of the Week this year.
Thompson said, "I guess it makes me realize you never know who you are making an impact on."
For one week, each teacher spent some time in the spotlight with their very own commercial, touting their work in the classroom.
Heather Williamson teaches Bobby Ray Elementary School in Warren County teacher and was also recognized in her local newspaper.
"It was in my local newspaper. All the kids at school found out, and they all thought I was something else. They all wanted autographs," she said. "They really thought it was great."
Not all the Educators of the Week could attend the luncheon.
Stratford High School's James Winrow, the first honoree of the year, planned to attend and bring his wife but the first day of coaching this summer fell on the same day.
Some students didn't have a ride home, so the Winrow took them.
News 2's Educator of the Week takes a break for summer vacation and will return in the fall.
