SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. - The National Weather Service has confirmed an EF-1 tornado, with maximum wind speeds around 100 miles-per-hour, touched down in northwest Sumner County Friday afternoon.

The tornado was 50 yards wide at maximum and on the ground for 0.6 mile.

It touched down near the intersection of highways 25 and 76, and traveled southeast.

Numerous trees were snapped or uprooted along the storm's path and in Cottontown, two homes suffered significant roof damage and two others were damaged.

The neighboring homes on Creekmore Road are now covered with plastic until repairs to the roofs can be made.

A third house also sustained damage to its roof and lost about five trees in the yard.

A wrought-iron patio set or porch railing was blown 600 yards and dropped in two of the yards.

Another piece was thrown through the vinyl siding of the fourth house.

Homeowner Larry Holmes watched the severe weather coverage and ran to another neighbor's house as the storm approached.

He was contacted later by Sumner County EMS and notified that 12 feet of the roof of his home was blown away.

An out building where two pickup trucks were kept lost a wall and the trucks sustained minor damage.

There were no reports of injuries in Sumner County.
